Welcome back (future) Remote Champ,
This week is very special for me because weโre talking about Belgium ๐ง๐ช
The country I grew up and I love with all my heart.
And I didnโt choose just anyone. This person has the craziest story youโve heard in a while. He was a digital nomad LONG before digital nomads existed ๐ฅ
Letโs meet my fellow Belgian friend!
๐ A glimpse of what you can expect today
๐ง๐ช Meet Kris

๐ก Another great tip to land a remote job
And so much more ๐
๐ Meet Kris (๐ง๐ช)
Kris and I met a few months back on LinkedIn through some friends. We had a super cool online coffee and have stayed in contact since then. He featured me in his awesome newsletter โPeople Like Youโ (must read) and I HAD to have this guy on mine because his story is too crazy not to be told.
He now is the International Marketing Director at KdG University of Applied Sciences, and publishes content and courses that helps founders and creators tell better stories. Prior to that, he's had a very crazy and uncommon life. He traveled the world while doing some jobs you probably didnโt know even exist:
| Kris in action |
Today, Kris lives in a cabin in the woods working remotely ๐ He loves being around people and being surrounded by inspiring folks, but he also needs to be able to unwind and spend time in nature. Nature is his true source of inspiration and energy!
๐ก Krisโ Remote Work tips:
โ
Don't let work bleed into your personal time and space
โ Have a designated work space/habit/routine, and only work within that
โ
Time blocking and pomodoro sprints
โ Give big projects the time they need, and focus on one thing at a time.
โ
Get your work-free signal
โ A habit I picked up during Covid-times: I had a (strikingly orange) baseball cap, that I would wear when I was NOT working. This signaled to my housemates that I was free, and to myself that it was time to enjoy life. And I would definitely not want to be seen on camera with that thing :)
๐ BONUS: to not feel lonely as a remote worker
โ Virtual co-working spaces. I have a few close friends who live in another part of the world. We'll start a WhatsApp video call, put our phones so we can see each other - agree on what we will work on, and then just do the work. We don't talk, but we work together. It creates an intimate and very productive work setting.
๐ฝ Krisโ must-see in Belgium:
โDe Kalmthoutse Heide - it's a magical place. And very quiet.โ
Having been there myself, I must admit itโs a hidden gem ๐

๐งโ๐ซ Tips to land a remote job
Another week, another tip from Kristin Vierra, the Remote Career Coach ๐ฅ to help you land a remote job and level up your remote career.
TIP OF THE WEEK:
Sell yourself with passion.
Yes, your experience and skillset are important. These are the foundation to show you are qualified for a role.
Yet, passion sells.
Sell your passion for the role.
Sell your passion for the mission.
Sell your passion for the company.
In every part of the application process, resume/cover letter, your personal reachouts to Recruiters, interviews, follow-up/thank yous etc....authentically show your passion for the remote role and company.
Passion can be felt.
Passion sells.
Make sure that you show your passion during your remote job search.
