Hello (future) Remote Friend,

We’re already halfway through 2023 and companies still force people back into the office. Crazy, huh?

Luckily, we are creating a solid community of remote workers and there are plenty of cool companies who accept Work From Anywhere!

This week, we are heading to Latin America, and more precisely: Mexico 🇲🇽.

Let’s go straight to it 👇

👀 A glimpse of what you can expect today
  •  🇳🇬 Meet Pedro, my buddy from Mexico

  • 🎁 A little gift for you

  • 🧑‍🏫 2 more tips for landing a remote job

  • 🚶 Ultimate guide to taking breaks

👋 Have you met Pedro (🇲🇽)?

In May, I met Pedro on LinkedIn and after a few weeks of messaging, we finally got into a call in June. I was super happy about this call because Pedro has a cool story. At the age of 15, Pedro left Mexico to pursue his dream of playing golf at a higher level. So he moved all by himself to Kansas City. Just him and his scholarship.

After a few years spent in the United States, Pedro went back to Mexico to study International Business. Today he works as a Customer Success Specialist at Apollo 🚀 100% remotely from his home country. And we love it!

To avoid feeling lonely while working remotely, Pedro co-works with his brother and organizes virtual coffees with his colleagues and other remote workers (that’s how we met)!

💡 Pedro’s Remote Work tips:

  • 🕜 Stick to a Routine

It helps you stay focused and motivated. Wake up, get dressed (yes, pajamas count!), and start your day as if you were heading to the office.

  • 🏃 Take Regular Breaks

Get up, stretch, and recharge. Stepping away from your desk helps maintain productivity and keeps you refreshed.

  • 🧑‍⚕️ Practice Self-Care

→ Take care of yourself by prioritizing exercise, healthy meals, and sufficient sleep.

🗽 Pedro’s must-see in Mexico:

Pedro didn’t hesitate a minute because it is the place where he’ll be on a workation* for the second time this year: the hidden beaches of Puerto Escondido. Seems like a must-see (I’m a beach-lover!).

*Workation retreats: the ultimate productivity boost. Immerse in breathtaking locations, embrace the island lifestyle, connect with remote professionals, and join a vibrant community of like-minded individuals. WorkAdise makes it all possible for you (Canary Islands). Get 10% OFF by sending "HappyDays" when contacting them through their website.

🚶 The ultimate guide to taking breaks

If you follow me on LinkedIn, you’ve probably seen my post on Monday about the importance of taking breaks. Taking breaks is good, but taking GOOD breaks is even better. That’s why I’m sharing a short guide for you to take the best breaks you can.

  1. When to take breaks?

I’ve seen a lot of different opinions and theories on this topic and I don’t know which one I should believe. It really depends from person to person and from day to day. Find out what works for you!

My suggestion: track yourself to see how long you are productive on average. Once you have this information, plan your breaks into your calendar, and don’t skip them.

  1. What are good breaks?

A good break gets you detached from your work. It’s really that simple. This can be different for me than it is for you.

To make it easy for you, there are only 2 rules. Your break must:

  • Have nothing to do with your work.
If you sit behind a screen all day → get off the screens.
If you sit on a chair all day → stand up, stretch or have a walk.

  • Be something you enjoy doing.

Do something that provides you with a good feeling. Stay in a good mood, it helps your brain to focus.

To give you a few examples of good breaks:

  • Go for a walk

  • Do some exercises (stretch or physical)

  • Call a friend

  • Have fun with your kids

  • Meditate

  • Cook (if you like cooking)

As long as you don’t forget to limit your break in time 😄

🧑‍🏫 Tips to land a remote job

Last week, you received 2 cool tips to help you land a (new) remote job! Because there are too many bad resumes, we want to make sure you stand out with your resume.

In today’s edition, I’m featuring 2 more resume tips from Remote Career Coach Kristin Vierra:

Tip 3: The magic formula for a targeted experience statement on your resume for the remote role:

Strong action verb + what you did + impact you created (quantified whenever possible for added impact). For added magic, ensure you’re intertwining your remote skillset (distributed, remote, global, across time zones, etc). Remember to highlight the impact you created! Quantifying the results whenever possible is a powerful way to show impact.

Tip 4: Now it’s time to showcase your skills! Last week, I mentioned the importance of reading the job description multiple times. This is important for identifying the relevant skills you need to highlight. Create a separate section on your resume to break out these skills. You can also create a ‘remote tools’ or ‘remote proficiencies’ section under skills to highlight and showcase your remote-specific skillset.

Want to make the best resume to stand out and land your dream job?
My recommendation: kickresume
→ Bonus: match your resume with the best remote jobs for you.

New tips coming your way next week (not resume-related)!

🏋️‍♀️ Remote move challenge

Working remotely: the ultimate joy of being stuck to our desks, draining our energy, ruining our health, and obliterating productivity and happiness. Can't get enough of it 😅

Unless you keep yourself active and energized…
Every week I propose a short challenge for you to keep moving. Here you go for this week:

  • Call a friend/family member while having a walk outside every weekday

  • Do 3 reps of an exercise your like three times per day (e.g. sit-ups)

  • Dedicate at least one hour per day to working while standing

You will be more productive and you will feel a lot better 💪
Trust me on this one!
