👋 Meet Magnus and Mila (🇮🇩)

It’s been a few months since I met Magnus on a call. His love for remote work stood out and together with his girlfriend, Mila, they are not just telling how awesome it is. They are showing it!

Their story is pretty crazy: it all started when they asked their employer if they could work from abroad for 3 months. After some negotiation (see tips here), they got what they wanted and started traveling. Their output was good so they asked for more time abroad. And guess what? Almost 2 years later they are still working for the same employer.

But great things come to an end. Soon, they’ll focus 100% on their own project, The Remote Concept. Of course, all of this while traveling the world.

Oh, I almost forgot to tell you: they are currently crossing Indonesia by scooter while working. Just to show the world it is possible. Why not, right? 🛵

If you have any questions on how to travel the world and combine it with work, add them on LinkedIn: Magnus & Mila - The Remote Concept

PS: Magnus loves working from co-working spaces with a LOT of room (read cathedral effect) and Mila loves working from a bed, it doesn’t matter where!

💡 Their Remote Work tips:

Plan fewer and smaller tasks for your day
We are 10x more productive and happy with ourselves if we reduce our tasks.

Use music to manipulate your mood
Adjust your playlist to influence the vibe affecting your work:
• Need to write something epic?
→Listen to music like 'Time' by Hans Zimmer
• Need to finish a big list of small easy tasks?
→ Listen to Melodic Techno (yes, that's a thing)

Stop torturing yourself
When you don’t like a task you’re doing, you often move on to other stuff. Don’t! Start an X-minute timer (leave it open so that you can see it). Put on some high-energy music. Take a deep breath. And push yourself to start. Within 2 minutes, you'll get some momentum!

🗽 Their must-see in Indonesia:

Indonesia has a million highlights that are unlike any other. Our favorite thing, the thing that REALLY made us fall in love with Indonesia - is renting a motorbike, picking a spot on a map and just driving there, having a road trip, seeing the smaller villages, trying some local food, and enjoying nature. (That’s why we’re driving from one side of Indonesia to the other 😉)

🧑‍🏫 Tips to land a remote job

Another week, another tip from Kristin Vierra, the Remote Career Coach 🔥 to help you land a remote job and level up your remote career.

TIP OF THE WEEK:

Allocate time during your remote job search to focus on expanding your skillset.

How to go about the process:

1) Be clear on what role(s) you are targeting

2) Read job descriptions to take note of any required skills

3) Notice any skill gaps

4) Identify the skills needed to close the gap

5) Use learning platforms and resources to acquire those skills (LinkedIn Learning, Udemy, etc.)

6) Add to the skills/tools section of your resume.

7) Speak to this in interviews by emphasizing how you value continuous learning to best contribute to your role 🤓

Remember, skill building and continuous learning will not only help you target this remote job, but it will also help you thrive and grow in your chosen career path!
